At the 1968 Reunion of the NALF at Biloxi, MS, it was voted that the Association would adopt the Lively Coat of Arms that had been researched in England and prepared by the Sanson Institute of Heraldry. Even though direct lineage of the Livelys of America has not been established with the Livelys of England, it was assumed upon all evidence available that such lineage was proper. The original spelling of the name was Livie, changing through the centuries to the current spelling of Lively.
The crest is found and pictured on the top of the helmet. The history of the crest is somewhat obscure, but more likely represents the symbol of the military leader.

The helmet is of simple design and generally avoids artistry, strictly functional.

The mantle or scroll work around the shield was adopted from the cloak worn by the knight. It is purely decorative and is absent in many coats of arms.
The tinctures (colors) in the coat of arms are of (gold) and azure (blue). The gold originates from the precious metal attributing surpassing valor to the bearer. From liturgical symbolism, gold has acquired the attributes of celestial light, joy and honor. Blue is representative of loyalty, fidelity and truth. Since ancient times, when brides wore a blue ribbon, the color has been associated with purity and love.

The mascle is a diamond-shaped ordinaire which is voided in the middle. The mascle was the piece to which armor was fastened.

The chevron is said to have been adopted from the bow of the war saddle which rose high in front and signifies military fortitude in battle.

The charges is a boars head. The boar is the champion of wild beasts, he encounters enemies with noble courage, thus symbolizing the traits of bravery and perseverance.
