Come one, come all to Atlanta in July! Our host hotel is the Atlanta Marriott Northwest located at 200 Interstate North Parkway, just minutes from downtown Atlanta and the many attractions that are available in the area - such as Six Flags, White Water, the new Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain, Kennesaw Battlefield and the Southern Locomotive Museum featuring the famous "General," and much, much more. If you can't find something to do in your "free" time, you ain't lookin'! Also, our host family, the Buford Lively bunch, is working with the Cobb County Convention and Visitors Bureau to offer a special tour on Saturday to the Southern Civil War and Locomotive History Museum.
The weekend is sure to be a memorable one, so make plans now to
join us for the 70th NALF reunion in beautiful Atlanta. See page four for information on reservations.
A Glimpse of the Past
Individual Highlights:
  • Reunion news 1, 4
  • Family News 2, 3
Lynn Lewis, daughter-in-law to NALF member, Eddie Weis, alerted us to an article in the February/March 2006 issue of American Heritage magazine. Featured in "My Brush with History" is the late Emory Lively, a member of the 3rd Alabama Calvary camped near Lookout Mountain during the Civil War. The article, written by Catherine Lively Hansen of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, concerns Emory's life following the war, particularly his "war-born dream" of settling in Tennessee, and eloquently expounds on the reconciliation achieved throughout this great nation in the years following the Civil War. The article is accompanied by a photograph of several members of the United Confederate Veterans visiting Emory's home at Lookout Mountain.
